The German Grand Prix was not a good race for Gautier Paulin who had a nasty accident in Race 1 of the MX1 series.
The Kawasaki team rider qualified well for second place in the German supercross style autodrome at Lausitzring which has had over 20,000 cubic metres of soil imported.
At the start, Paulin took the lead and remained there until lap five. While trying to avoid an obstacle, the French rider lost control of his KX450F, fell and took a heavy blow to the head. Fortunately his AGV AX-8 Evo helmet absorbed the worst of the impact and prevented any more serious consequences. He did not finish the race and was kept in hospital overnight for observation.
This crash was a real shame for Paulin which sees him drop from second to fourth place in the overall standings in the premier class.
His day to forget went exactly the opposite for David Philippaerts who got his best result of the season by coming home in sixth place. The Honda rider from Tuscany, who also wears an AGV AX-8 Evo helmet, rode consistently in Race 1 and fought his way up from twentieth to eighth position then showed his true form by taking sixth place in the last lap.
The TM team rider Tanel Leok, didn't have a great day as he had to start from the very back after having had to retire from qualifying with mechanical problems. In both races, the Estonian had to start from the back and the best he could manage were 14th and 15th places.
The MX2 rider Ivo Monticelli had to retire from both races with physical problems.
The next event will be in the Czech Republic on 4 August at the spectacular Loket track.
