Movistar Yamaha's Valentino Rossi ended today's Mugello MotoGP round less than three second behind eventual winner Marc Marquez and team-mate Jorge Lorenzo but says yesterday's error in qualifying made his life difficult.
The Doctor had to start from the fourth row after making a error of judgement putting in the soft front tyre which gave him massive chatter but he recovered in his 300th Grand Prix and at the end of lap one, Rossi pushed to sixth and then hunted down his younger prey.

"The practice and the weekend were difficult. I think I had a chance to fight with Marc and Jorge but we give away too much yesterday with the mistake in the practice," said Rossi, speaking at the track. "In the morning, I couldn't find a better setting but I did some funny and clean overtaking. I arrive at the third place early but already Marc was 1.4 in front. I hoped to take the slipstream but it was late, so I lose a little bit. I am happy because I am back on the podium in Mugello for a long, long time.
"I move into second place in the championship and now I hope they are disqualifyung Marc for more races. I want to try and win. We are not so far and is not so bad "I wasn’t too far from them and all the people were happy for my podium. It is a great emotion as always, it was a solid race from fourth row to third. I think I had the chance to battle with them but unfortunately we made a mistake yesterday in practice but we will try in Barcelona again. "The podium in Mugello is always fantastic, it's the most special moment of the season, it’s like a great concert. It's a great party for MotoGP and motorcycling because the passion in Italy is amazing. This is my 300th GP, so I’m in the middle of my career, another 300 before the end! "Now the races are very, very tough. Before, in the past, there was a lot more strategy and you don't push 100 per cent every lap but now it is like this from the start."
