After a well-earned holiday in the Maldives and intense winter training, the official Kawasaki rider started off on the right foot making a spirited comeback in the qualification heat where he climbed to 6th place.
In Sunday's near Arctic conditions, Gautier decided not to take any senseless risks but still came home with three very useful finishes in 3rd, 5th and 7th place.
Paulin will open the World Championship Series wearing his AGV AX-8 helmet on 2 March at the Qatar Grand Prix night race which will be held in the Doha Stadium where the MotoGP also takes place.
