Thruxton BSB: Gowland bags Supersport series lead

Smith’s Triumph rider Graeme ‘Dead Cert’ Gowland won yesterday’s feature Motorpoint British Supersport race at Thruxton and swiped the series lead away from under the nose of team-mate Billy McConnell. The Northumbrian rider, who was penalised on Saturday for overtaking under yellows and demoted from the win to third, waited until the last lap in race two to bag the victory and said it was a lesson learned. “I made a mistake yesterday and I paid the penalty. I learnt my lesson though and was more tactical in the closing stages. I’m delighted with the win,” said Gowland. “Three rounds ago I was 41 points behind Billy so to be leading now is fantastic. The three of us are split by four points though so we’re back to square one and the season starts all over again at Oulton Park.” Gowland sits atop the table on 192 points, one ahead of McConnell with Saturday’s race winner Alastair Seeley in third place another three points in arrears.
